Default Benzemania's next stop: Old Trafford

I must say i didnt think we'd see him at Old Trafford so early! I hope he impresses Sir Alex, not too much of course.

As I've said before you're either a brilliant wum or a raging simpleton.
Either way it makes for a great read.
Your perverse lusting over all non-English centre forwards is quite brilliant.
There's a new object of affection every day!

It's clear that Fergie wants Benzema. Interesting that he's being so open about it. As the paper that carried the quote said, it's very unlike Fergie to admit an interest in a player in the way he did about Benzema. It suggests to me that he's trying to make the player feel wanted; Benzema will certainly now feel that he's highly regarded by United. Fergie probably realises that there will be a couple of other big clubs in for him in the summer, so to get the player feeling like United is the place he'd be most appreciated is a smart tactic.

We're not after him, it's an obvious decoy. For who, I have no idea!

What makes you think it's an obvious decoy?

because if you wanted to buy a house that everyone was interested in, would you go around announcing it to the world? No, you'd keep it quiet and try and get a deal sorted as soon as possible. Thus beating of any other potential bids. By announcing it we're just giving other clubs a chance to get in there before us.

Fergie is no fool, so I'd presume it's a decoy (Collymore, Cole) situation.

I don't think Fergie's declarations will have awoken anyone else to Benzema's talent; I'm sure all the big clubs were watching on Wednesday. Like I say, I think Fergie's open charm offensive with Benzema is aimed at impressing the player. If Benzema ends up having to chose between United and a Madrid or Milan, it'd do us no harm if his impression of us is that we're a club that rates him extremely highly and he was top of our list. That kind of thing can make the difference. How often do players talk about the reason for choosing a club being how much they were made to feel wanted/appreciated.

Did anyone see the clip on SSN early Wednesday morning, it was Fergie, Houllier and Benzema having a laugh in the tunnel presumably after the match. Fergie was trying to hand him a united shirt.

Swear i didnt dream this , someone else must have, was about 6.00am?

It was pretty obvious to me that ferguson liked him when speaking about him. He's not worth anything like 30m though, thats some sort of sick joke. I'd also prefer we gave our youth strikers a go as well before buying some cretin like him.

Had united been tracking him before Wednesday?

Yep. I first heard that we had an interest towards the end of last year. I'm sure he was on the radar long before that as well.
