Default #Lumplovers, big Luka has 6 in 8 this calendar year, stop the hate now

Martinez who had him shining at Everton speaks on Lukaku, worth listening.
Will be a massive week for the lad, Seville away and then Chelsea at home. He's in great form right now to be fair

Quote:
'Everyone looks at Romelu Lukaku and forgets that he's 24,' Martinez said on Match of the Day. 'He's already had two record transfers, to Everton (from Chelsea for £28m in 2014) and then to Manchester United.

‘I've seen a big change in his maturity. He's got a little bit of everything. As a No 9 sometimes you play against them and they are a little bit predictable.

‘He's good with his back to goal, he's getting stronger. With the space he's unstoppable because he's got that strength and power but his outstanding quality is his finishing.

'You get a good chance and he will score. He's still a young player and is someone that can develop.’
21 goals in 38 games, have people been too harsh? Did the shambles he performed at home to City make some people never be able to forgive him?

No. As it stands he's had an underwhelming season. Especially given how it started.

But as you say he has the chance to rescue it. Sevilla and Chelsea provide the chance to get some proper momentum. Needs to step it up now, not go quiet for the next week and then be back with a bang when we play Palace the following Monday. Get behind him etc

If he bangs hard for these two games I think even the doubters will start singing his songs.

We definitely look like we need a spark. Been a bit low since mid January tbh.

His last goal was a great example of this. Touch like a nervous tic, then all of a sudden it's in the back of the net. Would a top class defence allow him to get away with that?

Fair play to him, he's started showing a lot more effort and has been holding the ball up a lot better.

Of course they will. Nobody wants him to be shite pal.

21 in 38 really is bare minimum for him. And it seemed unthinkable back in October.

It was the perfect game for Lukaku playing on the counter against a shit team. Must have felt like his Everton days.

Shit gets serious now with big league games, CL ties and (presumably) an FA Cup semi at Wembley. Over to you, Rom.

That's the one, I think. Digs it out from under his feet because he's let it run a tad too far, bit clumsy for a top class striker but it worked.

Doesn't actually sound too bad when you say it like that

But yeah, Lukaku...We'll see come the end of the season. Loads of big games, potential big games, another derby and Liverpool to come.
Lots can happen

Looked a lot better recently.

That shambolic Newcastle game overshadowed his best all-round game for us.

And he took his two chances at the weekend.

21 goals for an underwhelming season is pretty good.

As Siders says, big month coming up though. Starting tomorrow.

Could be the talisman to turn our little crisis period around.

Imagine that.

11 of them before the end of September is the context. Felt back then that he'd get 40 odd in all comps.

As Saffers says, he's getting back on track in 2018. For now he has the manager's full faith anyway. It's on him to deliver.

He needs to score an important goal in a big game.

He seemed to try his hardest to trip over the ball Did well in the end, does not instill confidence.

Loads of strikers are streaky in nature, the ones that get away with that are also decent footballers who can contribute beyond simply finishing.

If he finishes with 30 for the season & shows some signs of being able to trap a ball it's not to be sniffed at. If he dries up at the business end of the season & still looks like some kind of competition winner when attempting a simple lay off I wouldn't be upset if he went elsewhere.

There would be a lot more goodwill if he'd scored that one on one at the murderers.

Just needs something like that to go in.

He scored against cannon fodder.

When did he last score in a big game...
