I tend to agree with that idea - but he is nowhere near Leighton

Foster has made a lot of basic errors this season. because he is playing for a shite team he has had a lot of work to do, and has shown his shot stopping ability, the flashy part of keeping, but not the one that really separates the good from the great. His judgment of crosses is not that good, flaps a lot.

He has had a dip in form recently, yes. However to compare him to Leighton is ridiculous.

I said Leighton-esque which means he shares some of Leighton's traits, not all...not yet anyway

Foster seems to be a great shot stopper but I cant say the same about the bread and butter stuff keepers have to deal with.

Granted I have only watched a handful of Watford games this year though.

VDS has melted into a big pile of dog shit though.

I'm not quite sure what VDS did wrong yesterday tbh.

But I do agree we need a new number 1 next season

he inspires zero confidence in the defenders in front of him, every time we get a free kick it's like a penalty for the opposition, his positioning is shite, his reactions poor and his distribution woeful....apart from that he's OK

I think his confidence has gone because of the shite defenders in front of him.
Heinze & Brown at centre back? £#%&! me, they'd struggle in League One.

We've needed a new number 1 since Schmeichel departed. The truth is, we were spoilt - goalkeepers of that quality come around once a generation or so.

Default is this a wum? please tell me it's a wum.

every player has a dip in form sooner or later.

the fact is, for most of the last two seasons vds has been one of our most consistent performers. he wasn't at fault for either goal against everton or for either of the milan goals and he has made a few very important saves in both matches and in the boro match (not at fault there either). wtf is the problem? his distribution is excellent and a very important part of our game. he's looked shaky on crosses in recent weeks - true, but what do you expect with rio and vidic out? he's coming for some that he wouldn't because he doesn't trust brown and pie.

i hope vds will be the no 1 next season and that foster has the chance to learn from him from the bench and in training.

Should we really be looking for a young keeper?

Perhaps the solution is just to spend a few million on older keepers every few seasons. The thing we need most in a United keeper is experience and a level headed player that can concentrate and not make basic errors. I think old keepers may be the way to go.

i've got a lot of sympathy for him, our back 4 has been different on 7 occassions or something plus he's never been in this position before. we're chasing 3 major trophies and our goal is being shot at more often than i can remember!

i agree though, we need Foster in there next season.

I think his confidence has gone because of the broken nose and then getting another whack on in recently
