Default Blackpool owners sue Fans forum.

Quote:
Blackpool’s owners Owen and Karl Oyston have launched a libel case against a supporters’ online forum and are seeking £150,000 of damages.
Papers were served last week after six derogatory comments about the pair were made on the Back Henry Street website last year.

A Blackpool spokesman has confirmed that the Oystons are taking legal action but has refused to make any further comment. However, a notice published on Back Henry Street gave more details.
“To clear up any rumours, on Thursday 5 February 2015, Back Henry Street was served papers from the court, relating to the Oystons’ and Blackpool Football Club’s intent to seek damages for six allegedly defamatory comments made on the site in 2014, limited collectively at £150,000.

Organisers of the forum have also appealed for supporters to help fund their legal costs.
“A message board is perhaps the greatest bastion of free speech and that is a right that can never be threatened,” it read. “It is not down to just one person to fight the Oystons, it is our collective duty.”

I would just like to say now that my views that the glazers should die in great pain are mine and not those of the site. probably.

That's surely fair comment.

No defamation there.

If you were to call them a bunch of parasitic @#%&!s, then you might find you need a "reportedly" or "allegedly."

Any reference to their country of origin or preferred divine fairy stories might land you in hot water though. And not just with armchair.

How do you defame a convicted sex offender and a son who was mocked throughout the football media for leaving the club with no first team squad to go on pre season tour and accused specifically in many papers of trousering the entirety of Blackpool's parachute payments from the premier league.

How do you make their reputation worse?

*Sigh*

If only.

I've heard it said too many times though.

(Though happily, I've never read it on here or other United forums.)

There have been a few derogatory Whelan-type references here IIRC. Anybody who does it is swiftly banned, though.
