Default Looks like Spurs have got Palacios

Tottenham are on the brink of signing midfielder Wilson Palacios from Wigan after Latics boss Steve Bruce said a deal had been "virtually agreed".

The 24-year-old has been with Wigan for just over a year after he joined from Deportivo Olimpia on a three-and-a-half year deal for £1m in January.

But the club have opted to cash in on the Honduran, with a deal of around £14m thought to have been agreed.

"The clubs have virtually agreed a fee. It's how it will be paid," said Bruce.

"It is up to us as a selling club to demand what we want in terms of how we should be paid and how we should be structured. We will see what happens.

"Wilson is still with us and I'm preparing him to play against Manchester City tomorrow. That's the situation at the moment but we will see what happens in the next few hours."

Tottenham had a bid of £10m rejected on Wednesday but, even at the time, Bruce conceded the club would not stand in Palacios's way if a bigger offer came in.

"We don't want to lose anyone, but everyone knows in football that everyone has their price and of course we can't deny the players that opportunity to further their careers," he said on Wednesday.

"The big boys start circling and coming to nick your players and unfortunately, if they pay enough, then they are always going to get their own way, that is the way of the world unfortunately.

"I have been there myself and how can you deny somebody a life-changing opportunity?"

Winger Antonio Valencia and striker Emile Heskey have also been linked with moves away from the JJB.

Valencia is a reported target of Real Madrid, while Aston Villa and Liverpool are rumoured to be interested in signing Heskey, who is out of contract in the summer.

Definitely. They could have done with him for when the Dippers arrive at the JJB shortly.

Palacios in their XI will improve them. Not hard though considering the shite they currently have in their centre midfield.

Wigan are reluctant to do business with Tottenham as they, like Sunderland, West Ham, Portsmouth and Middlesbrough, have become aggrieved at the way Spurs have gone about their business in the January transfer window.

Levy is still da man, though.

Interesting to see a bit of speculation that he may stay at Wigan until the Summer. Also nice to see, will enable Wigan to remain competitive until the season finishes.

Think him and his mate have had a Fergie nudge from Cribbins?

No idea but if Whelan/Bruce have any sense they should encourage Palacios to stay until the Summer. It won't harm any future deal IMO, they'll get a good fee for him then and they will then have more time to get a few players in.

Apparanty they had a gentlemans agreement with City. If City pulled out of the race, Spurs would forget about signing that Welsh @#%&!
