Robinho very rarely played as a winger in Brazil, this really only happened in Madrid. In fact, very few Brazilian teams even play with wingers as such - generally speaking they either play with two meia-atacantes in the 4-2-2-2 or with wing backs in a 3-5-2 variation. Santos generally favoured the former, with Robinho one of the two forwards. So his position with City is quite close to the position he played in Brazil.
