Default O'shea 10 years

Manchester United defender John O'Shea celebrates ten years as a senior player at Old Trafford this week.

O'Shea made his United debut in October 1999 in a League Cup defeat at Aston Villa.

"I don't want to look back on my Manchester United career," he said. "Fingers crossed there is lots more to come. I knew if I was going to leave United I would have a great grounding. The education was terrific, not only in terms of football, but maturing as a person.

"But when you look back, I guess everything has worked out okay so far. Long may it continue."

Official confirmation of O'Shea's longevity came when Sir Alex Ferguson handed the 28-year-old the captain's armband for the opening game of this season against Birmingham.

"It worries me," joked O'Shea. "I used to think I was quite young. Obviously you know the years are ticking by because of the age of the lads coming into the squad and the amount of games you have played.

"I have been fortunate enough to be captain as well. You know you are maturing and getting that bit older."

love him or hate him to play for united for ten years is quite an achievement

I remember in his early days when he used to skin people for a living and rampage down the wing looking as composed and assured on the ball as possible. Now his gangly frame looks the polar opposite on the ball which I find strange.

I dont particularly rate him but how anyone could hate him is beyond me. Like you say 10 years at United is remarkable.

And he's scored some very important goals too.

His song is too good for him though.

His nutmeg against Figo, his chip against Arsenal and his goal against the dippers in front of his beloved KOP...

Other than that I'm not sure what else I remember

Spot on. He has his critics, and a lot of them are United fans, but he does a terrific job for us.

He's not the most talented, agile or quick player but he is an important squad member.

Well done Sheasy. 10 years is a wonderful achievement. I won't be going to your testimonial though.

Took him a few seconds to realise what he's done there A normal celebration at first and then his eyes go

Always thought i'd seen his debut against Derby in 2001 though, 5-1 I think

I think it's in the sense that he has never complained etc rather than his ability.

He's been a terrific servant. We'd agree on that?

i'll agree on that, though i've never been his biggest fan.

I think it's a shame he's such a nice lad, if hhe had a bit more hardness about him I think he could've been a top class centreback.
