Well, it is.

Tin hat on....

The par league isn't nearly as stupid as we make out.

I think all teams are judged to the same standard (the par). And if you hit par every match you'll achieve enough points to (theoretically) win the league.

The idea is that the real league table is only fair on the last day of the season as until that point you haven't completed the same fixtures as your competitors.

This 'adjusted' league table is only used to predict where teams will finish and should (in theory) be a more accurate gauge than current league position.

When the season is finished, both tables are exactly the same.

That's exactly why it's such brilliant nonsense.

In the end, all that matters is where you finish. Where you were in January and how you got on against Southampton compared to last season are irrelevant. The prof puts this incredible effort into something that tells you absolutely nothing new.

Of course it's stupid. According to the par league, Liverpool are having a better season than us. They simply aren't.

It's a completely pointless excercise with the sole aim of making them feel better about themselves. They barely gave it a mention during the second half of last season when they thought they were going to win the real life, not away with the fairies, actual league.

innit....if we draw away to the 3rd best team this season....we get no points.

We are ahead of them in the par league now.

How are we fourth and minus 12?

A par, is considered the expected score/result?

How is this set? We were awful last season.

Because it's predicting we'll finish 4th on 78pts (12 below the par of 90).

Based on what we've seen so far this season, it's a fair enough judgement.

The biggest issue with the table is that it doesn't account for form. Southampton have enjoyed tremendous form but history tells us that teams like this wont sustain it. So the par table currently shows they're on target for a 3rd placed finish, but we all know there's £#%&! all chance of that happening.

The pars are set at the start of the season. Every home game is an expected win. There are no expected losses! Some away games are down for a draw.

The pars are the same for every team (to make it even) and aren't based on results from any other season, just a perception of what is a tough match (e.g. Stoke away).

Funnily enough, Palace away is a draw for par this year

Lok ( Liverpool Overall Klass ) is scouse ( chester scouse ) so that is why he studies it, understands it and prefers it to the real league.

Too £#%&!ing right.

It is slightly odd that they should hold us to a higher standard than themselves, but it is only right.
