Not saying it was pal, just had a flashback of him going on a drought and (I think ) ending it against City?

Memory is shocking these days.

In the middle this season he scored five league goals in four months. Compare teams and systems all we like, Aguero doesn't do that.

Btw minimum does indicate that it's somewhat acceptable tbf. I haven't called it a failure, just it's the minimum requirement. And if he does go on a run now and reach those sorts of figures, it'll have been a strong start and a strong end, but a poor spell in between.

Didn't say they were. I think managers take most of the stick for their failure/success.

But it's still relevant to how you judge a signing. When you break the club record for a striker, it increases scrutiny on the signing.
The comparison is based on nothing more than the numbers, which is the crux of the discussion. And they stack up to numbers that are heralded as outstanding seasons for outstanding players.

Is it an exceptional return? No. Is it better than a minimum requirement? Yes.

That's all.

Obviously you don't have to agree.

His minutes per goal stat this season is the same as Lingard’s.

He’s barely scraping minimum requirement for the role of sole striker playing just about every minute of every game tbh.

Tbf dunks, sole striker is about it. On his Todd with no support and often no general intent to score until we’ve tired the oppo out at around 75/80 mins. Transitional period and first season... he’s done pretty well. Just gone thru a lean spell as all strikers do (as some tiresome “contributors” keep on, and on, on etc about) but didn’t score enough in November, which is ever, ever so much more important than February, don’t you know. Hope the weathers not too nasty in Hemel Hempstead.

Savage

He's done the bare minimum.

Lingard's is excellent too. Which is why he's being praised this season.

I disagree. It stacks up with comparisons to other strikers in seasons considered successful, as stated above.
