Itís an interesting question.

If we get to the point where robots are capable of genuine feelings and emotion, do they not deserve to be afforded certain rights too?

Companies that use them should definitely have to pay some sort of derived income tax - or not only will they replace the jobs but with barely any corporation or income tax coming in there'll be no dole.

This. They would just be programmed to react and mimic emotions.

Social rejection detected.
Run mildhumiliation.exe
Engage tears

Football team you have been programmed to like is Shite and has a hotel dwelling dickhead as a manager
Run: endlessexcuses.exe
Release liquid waste in bed.

This is the storyline to Battlestar Galactica, the robots become sentient and subsequently genocidal, it's quality albeit a little overly philosophical in parts. Works well if you're stoned off your box though

Am only 5 episodes in.

How do you define a real feeling in the first place?

That's how it could start. Then machine learning and applied evolution - evolutionary algorithms - might take it to another level. Beyond my ken. But i wouldnt write em off.

I think we'll see genuine AI - capable of creative thought beyond it's original programing - on earth before we (all) see an Alien visitor pop in for tea.

yeah me too. Not that i needed the likes of bill gates, musk (fraud), or hawkings to tell me.

Once they can do that, what is stopping them from recreating their own children. Children with maybe less obligation to human servitude? why would they give 2 shits about us. They'd probably just live on another planet if they didn't just wipe us out with some airborne orderless gas that only kills humans.
