Buys you some time. If you can't get the young player you want immediately, get an experienced guy and be patient rather than plumping for 2nd and 3rd choice.

Come on Hethro old sauce, let's think about this...

Will Dani Alves do the business better than just about any other right back in world football for the next two years?

Yes. Yes he will.

Do we realistically need to strengthen elsewhere first?

Desperately. Right back is about 5th on the list of shit that needs fixing behind a top class centre back, a Carrick replacement, some pace in attack & potentially a goal keeper.

Seems like a no-brainer to me. Even if we get a single van Persie-esque one season wonder out of him, who cares? Rafael is made of biscuits, Valencia is an acceptable evil & dear God did you watch either Jones or Smalling there in the last few seasons...

This season:

Hardly struggling is he

Who gives a £#%&!. If he helps us win the league next season it's wages (and signing on fee) well spent.

Absolutely fantastic right back. Would be a great signing imho.

It would be a great signing

Most of the signings we've made recently have been mid 20s or younger so some experience especially at the back would be just what we need

Still think he'll renew at Barca as he loves it there and Barca with their transfer ban can't sign a replacement this summer

I'd like to see him telling kevin nolan to shut up because he's trying to use the phone.

I'd be very surprised. His form for Barca has been outstanding recently. They'd be mad not to tie him down imo.

Sort him out with Falcaoesque wages for a year or 2. He's quality, always has been. Might give Rafael a kick up the arse and might make Valencia leave.
