Default The Giggs substitution/situation

Last 5 games

League: Chelsea 0-0 - Came on for a striker at 0-0 to shore things up
League: Liverpool 0-1 - Started
Cup: Liverpool 1-0 - Started
CL: Shakhtar 1-1 - Came on for a midfielder at 1-0 to shore things up
League: Southampton 1-1 Came on for a winger at 1-0 to shore things up

Not Giggs' fault, he's past it. It has to be said it's a remarkably strange substitution for a manager with Moyes' experience.

Sums up Moyes. Doesn't have a clue when it comes to substitutions.

I expect he will be given the job in the new year when Mogles is sacked, to "win over the fans"

At least it would mean he could finally retire from playing with some dignity

Giggs is someone who should be coming on when we're 3 or 4 up. Not at 1-0 up. And certainly not starting. There's absolutely no value in bringing him on unless we're comfortable, especially when Kagawa is on the bench.

I feel Rio has had his gary Nev at West Brom moment, he hasn't played since. Giggs has had several and needs to turn it in.

Be nice if he managed a goal this season first though.

Yep, scoring in every year from 1991 to 2014 would be pretty nice.

Rio, Vidic, Evra and Giggs all need to be shown the door. Its crazy the amount of rebuilding that has to be done at united!

Not that replacements are any better. evans is probably the most consistent CB but always has a mistake in him.

Not sure what fergie saw in buttner to sign him (unless there was some money involved)

Very awkward situation. Giggs is a legend, new boss coming in knows this only too well and probably still sees him as he once was. Added complication is that he's part of the coaching staff now. As was said, Moyes has been able to spot how ineffectual Young, Valencia, and lately Rio have been. Fear Giggs is his blind spot.

Unreal tbn to lay the blame on moyes. Ferie was bringin giggs on for game the last 2 or 3 years consistantly but don't let that get in the way of an anti moyes thread. Rio imho has gone maybe he will come back but I'm not sure. Vidic has looked slow especially this season. Have no issues wiv evra tbh and would love utd to bring in luke shaw for that position. Think jones and evans with 15 to 20 games on the trot will become a great partnership. But modern day football fans can't see beyond the last result and you can't reason with them. What's happening atm is a result of mismanagement well before moyes took the helm. Winning the league last year was a miracle tbh and a lot of players playing over and above there current levels. There is a lot of waste hanging aroung utd on bumper wages and all these bar fellaine have nothing to do with moyes. But feries legacy can't be tarnished .

The fact that Freggie made mistakes in his last few years does not absolve Moyes from repeating them, you know.

Bring on Giggs if Utd are chasing a game or badly need a goal, his creativity will always be worth a gamble in those type of situations. Bringing him on to close out a game is a different matter, he is not going to turn into Scholes and become a metronomic passer, he will always go for the risky and make attacking runs. Yesterday as soon as he moved into CM he, within 15 secs, made a great run and just missed connecting with a Rooney cross to make it 2-0.

The composition of the bench was a problem, no Cleverley/Anderson to replace Fellaini. However Giggs has not shown any consistency since the end of the 10/11 season. Last year outside of the Chelsea league Cup tie, West Ham replay in the FA Cup and Madrid at home he struggled badly, bar the odd moment of brilliance.

Just like Rio, vidic, Brown, Pally, Jaap then .... Evans is a very good player. Smalling and Jones are fine centre backs too given a run in the team. Any combination of those three should be first choice, with Rio and vidic as back up. If vidic doesn't like that, he can £#%&! off to Juve or somewhere and stink them up.

let's have it right ffs, smalling came on "to shore it up", not giggs.

southampton looked like scoring throughout the game and eventually scored from a corner in the last minute.

united needed a 2nd goal. the game was very open throughout.

ferguson's legacy will remain favourable long after you're dead, pal. so you're just going to have to live with it.

He'll be good after the new year, when it's contract renewal time.

I totally agree with that (what?)

People like to bang on about Mourinho being new in the job and Pellegrini being new in the job but not doing as bad - but then they took over squads which have had about £200m+ invested in them over the last 2 summers. Compare that to Fergie who was scratching about in the bargain basement signing the likes of £#%&!ing Buttner and Nick Powell. And let's not forget his parting gifts of spending £15m on some @#%&! from Crystal Palace and some other cheapo foreign left back Varela.

There is no way they will give him another contract. Is there?

On top of wat city have had they also spent 100 mill and chelsea have and spuds have spent vast amounts this year. The knee jerk reaction of an incredible amount of fans is understandable because a vast majority have only ever seen suCces and person with an ounce of intelligiance realises it doesn't last for ever. I still feel with 3 or 4 fresh faces a bad start to a season could end up being great for 4 5 6 years and onwards. Its not my red eyes thinking that just feel abit of tinkering and these ridicoulous anti moyes thread polls and everything else will be a thing of the past
