The way to do it is buy the best you can when you can, then don't feel like you're stuck with them until they're 37. Be on the look out for an upgrade all the time.

Imagine we hadn't bought Rooney because we'd just bought Alan Smith and didn't need a striker

He's big and doesn't mind throwing himself about. Good in the air and a finisher. All he needs to show is he can hold up the ball.

Sign as many good players as possible especially if they want to join.
I feel the same. Not like he's the last player we'll ever sign. He's young, bags of potential. Get him in. The more the better. We need the option - most of our attacking players are completely brittle.

He’s exactly the sort of player we should be after.

We’ve spent years chasing our tails going for the absolute biggest names (or pretending we are). We need a younger profile of player, in that bracket where they’re just shy of top level, but with space to improve and plenty to prove.

We need players that fit the way the manager wants to play and improve what we already have. Simple as that, really.

We shouldn’t avoid Gakpo because he isn’t as good as Mbappe.

agreed. i'd like to think we're now past the point of status signings such as di maria, schweinsteiger, falcao and sanchez and are now actually investing in players that are a good fit, or have potential to be rather than just flexing our muscles.

Think Erik must have designs of playing him up top. Assuming there is cred in this link. Like the look of this fella.
