Elaborating on the injury situation with the French forward, Ten Hag had this to say: “We have to accept that these things progress on a step-by-step basis, in the case of Anthony, sometimes it is two steps forward, one step back. We were pleased with his performance overall yesterday, but he was upset he didn’t score. He holds himself to such high standards. He went home early and his mother called to say he’d had a momentary lapse in his routine. So now we have the knock on effect, and it’s a lesson he will have to learn if he wishes to keep improving. He can’t afford to stay up late, eating too much unhealthy food, and expect to wake up the next day feeling good. He was lethargic and he complained of muscle soreness. Who knows, if tomorrow he bounces back, he may be ready. But for now, we have to be careful he doesn’t relapse. He knows - with the injuries to the squad - he is needed more than ever. He is an important player for us.”.
It's a really oddly detailed explanation from ten Hag. He's saying essentially that "Martial didn't play very well against Sevilla and left early. His Mum (!) phoned in for him to say that he'd stayed up too late the night before eating pizza, and the next day he felt tired and his legs hurt".

He's pretty well throwing Martial under the bus with thinly-veiled sarcasm and he's either giving Martial an ultimatum, or preparing the board/Joel Glazer for a demand to get rid of him.

Absolutly mind boggling stuff & even im starting to run out of patiance with, Martial now, of all the times to go & eat the wrong things, when the club are more dependant upon him than ever before, as it look's as though, ETH is going to have to start with, Weghorst on sunday, unless he decides to take a gamble & give one of the young strikers in the youth team a starting place against, Forest, as im certain they would be a huge upgrade on The Burnley reject!

At least it puts to bed any silly notion of trying to build any part of this team around him next season. £#%&!ing fraud.
