Martinez and Casemiro came in and have been superb for the most part. Casemiro gets critism where it's due but his recent poor performances have been because we haven't bought the right player to play against him and he is looking exposed. Antony repeatedly gives the ball away, his decision making at times is atrocious and still has trouble beating players.

Not Sancho's biggest fan but he deserves the chance to play in his natural position - especially when he has yet to play there and the current guy on the right is stinking the place out.
That's nonsense though, and that's what's so odd about the OTT pile-one he gets.

Against Spurs he created two chances (one for Rashford and one for Cas), and he hit the post. He did significantly more than anyone else in a United shirt in attack, with more to do in general with AWB behind him not adding much to our game when in possession. But then people just seem to forget about anything he does, and just post that he's £#%&!, and doesn't add anything to the team

New target but the same old bandwagon.

Yes tbh.
Also ironic that being, apparently, our best player over the past two games, he's been hooked in both games...

It’s crazy isn’t it.

We used to accept that new signings take time. Especially foreign signings and younger players. Antony is both and he’s a winger, which are up and down by nature.

Now, whatever we see in moments must be the entirety of what we have.

He can’t score
He doesn’t assist
He’s no right foot

None of that is because he might be just settling in. That’s who he is and what we’ve bought.

The modern Twitter football fan doesn’t help. Everything is so reductive. Everyone mocking Caceido at the weekend. Apparently he’s not with £115m, rather than him just having a difficult debut.

Saw one yesterday saying that Antony is the worst winger in the league. Really? He’s worse than EVERY SINGLE WINGER IN THE DIVISION.

Jesus Christ!

Exactly. Get the impression people just don’t like his face or his style tbh. Which is fair enough, say that, don’t maintain he does nothing or isn’t any good ffs. He’s not a graceful, jinking, flying winger which we all recall from United’s pomp, that doesn’t exist anymore, or at the moment at least. He’s not going to the byline and cutting back 10 crosses a game, nobody is.

Not judging him at all on the first couple of games because everyone, nearly to a man (Onana aside obvs) has been dogshit.

That said, he's had a season to bed in so we absolutely have to see improvement and more end product this season.

I get why tenners likes him, and for me he's one of the few who has the right attitude, but he absolutely must produce this season. I'm not talking wild numbers but you'd like to see close to double figures on goals and assists if he's playing week in week out. Ultimately he's one of 3 attackers and if he can't manage that then someone else should get a look in.

He gets hooked on every game tbf, which if he were ETH’s pet etc. wouldn’t happen.

He gets hooked because he works his £#%&!ing %@#$&!s off and tires out the defenders he’s facing and sticking a fresh player in that role for the last 15-20 minutes is a standard tactic.

Oh, and he’s probably not fit enough to do 90 minutes, same as the rest of them.

Are you referring to the people that said on TV and radio that he deserved a kicking for having some flair about him, and think it's outrageous that a Brazilian winger that plays for United expresses himself with the ball?

The Ronaldo who literally every man United fan loved from the minute he stepped on the pitch against Bolton?

Wouldn't have survived a week with those stepovers now.

You'd have rent-a-gobs on talksport 'telling it how it is' saying that he's wasteful and deserves to get kicked off the pitch and he doesn't add anything to the team.

Exactly.

Love people rewriting history to suit their viewpoint.

Like I get told all I do is slag players off which is absolute nonsense. The only ones I have openly criticised over the past couple of years (and received a lot of abuse over it) has been Sancho, Donny and Antony. Funnily enough, the first two people are now seeing what I said early on and both of which probably wont be at the club at the start of next season.

You’ve forgotten the ‘one trick pony’ ‘no end product’ ‘sell him to the highest bidder’ years, clearly. Was a constant theme on RI.

Dunk absolutely has a point.

ronaldo scored 4, then 5, then 9 goals in his first 3 seasons for us.

And yeah, plenty of people had a lot to say about his game that wasn't positive. Surely you remember the "no end product" advocates.

stop with the "he's young" excuse.

he's 23 and a half (which we all know is rounded up to 24...)

to be honest, that is when a lot of wide forwards are at their peak.

he's older than saka, martinelli, foden, vinicious jr, rodrygo, kvaradona, etc

Tbf to windy, if he had his way wed be starting games with a line up something like this

Mbappe
Haaland
Vini Jr

De Bruyne
Bellingham
Verratti
Casemiro

Cafu
Beckenbauer
Puyol
Roberto Carlos

Petr Cech

It doesn’t matter that there’s 12 players there (he can’t count), or that half of them are retired, or that most of the ones still playing don’t want to come here. That’s the team he’d field. And anything less won’t do. He doesn’t really hate Antony; he hates that we can’t buy everyone.

Antony will be a wonderful player in time. He was a shade away from saving us from misery the other day. Maybe he’ll cross more when we have a CF taking up the right positions? Maybe when it’s not all on him to carry us forward he’ll ease up a bit and start playing with a bit more freedom. Time will tell.

And at 23 Mahrez was in France somewhere. Not every player’s trajectory/development is the same.
