Thumbs up Varane

That was the player I thought we were getting

Hopefully he can stay fit and put a good run of games together

Complimented Martinez well and had a good understanding with Dalot too.

Keep fit and stick Casemiro in front of him and we’ve got a solid foundation

Am I right in thinking that's the first game against 'the top 6' he's been fit for since he arrived?

He was £#%&!ing ace tbf.

ETH said he's on a specialised training program to keep him fit

Had a couple of sloppy moments and thought he could have done better in the goal, but comfortably a better defender than Maguire or Lindelof. We shouldn’t really be surprised. Whole backline was very good.

He was organising the defence - excellent performance.

Needs to up the dosage then, as they all looked £#%&!ed after 25 minutes and again after 70

Varane's a legitimately world class footballer .. shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. They had an easier night than expected as Firmino is absolute trash, but Casemiro will tighten things further and if pace/guile are retained on the press up front then the defensive unit may suddenly look much transformed.

Spent the last 40 odd games basically inviting sides on as the forward couldn't press and the midfield was porous. Brutal combination.

If he had fewer injuries he would make a great captain.

That’s not all I did though is it? Which is why you had to highlight that part of the post.

Only 9? Why not 10? Pfft, some people 👎

He was excellent. There, happy?

he was very slow to react on the goal and liverpool had plenty of crosses / chances that we were lucky they were too shit to exploit. happy to win and enjoy the moment, but that second half wasn't fun and it's not like we've turned a corner. it's more like liverpool have turned one.

You saying we didn't look any better last night than against Brighton, Brentford and most of the teams we played last season and we only won because Liverpool are now apparently shit?

I really hope not jem. I do.

brentford beat us 4-0, but they drew with leicester and lost to fulham. they hadn't turned a corner. let's see how it goes. we'll play better and lose.

Mentioned it in the match thread that I didn't realise he's only 29. Thought he was a mid-30s Madrid cast-off.

Keep him fit and he could be one of our most important players, for the next few seasons, too.

Same age as Maguire.

Class tonight. Another who probably had his best game for the club. Always been a top player, just came into a £#%&!ing shit-show last season and can’t stay fit.
