Will definitely go down as a flop, but there's a better defender in there than he's shown.

He's certainly worth more than £4m. He could have been a relatively useful squad player so I'm surprised we're letting him go for that.

We got him reasonable cheaply due to a release clause so maybe he's on a big contract.

I don't think he's so bad and considering the options we have at the back I don't understand why he's leaving if no one is coming in.

Yes to him going in the summer to make way for a better defender, no to losing a capable, but nevertheless journeyman, player without a replacement in January.

Edit: Who pays the salaries on loan players ? If they're on big money at United, do we still need to shell out a wedge even if they are on loan ?

4m euros for an italy international at his peak. What an absolute disgrace woodward is. How much would City, liverpool, spurs etc get for him? Why do we keep gifting players away for cheap while paying crazy money ourselves? Don't answer...
