Think he was more suggesting that swapping out Fergie for another man manager and leaving the rest of the staff in place would have worked. Just needed to bring someone in who could have man-managed the players and left the coaching to the coaches rather than Moyesing them. As it is, we've seen that a year of hurt has been the means to a magnificent end.

No I think S/Side had it right. He specifically mentions bringing in an outsider and building from within as two distinct options. In his view, of course, building from within would have been the correct choice and I doubt he meant giving the job to Shorts.
