Default Re: Accounts out at 11am

Quote:
Manchester United chief executive David Gill has insisted the club are under no pressure to sell the likes of Wayne Rooney despite announcing a major loss.

On Friday, the Red Devils revealed a post full-year operating profit of £100million, but an overall loss of £83.64million.

The figures have raised concerns over the Glazer family's ownership of the club, but Gill insists they are 'very good results'.

He said: "We are not a club that needs to sell. We have money in the bank so there is zero pressure on that, no pressure at all to sell any star player whether it is Wayne Rooney or X,Y or Z. I can categorically say that.

"There was no desire at all from anyone at the club to sell Cristiano (Ronaldo) - he wanted to go and as a result we managed to extract a world record fee.

"The philosophy is to retain and attract the best players. We have £165million in the bank but in some ways we would prefer to have £80million in the bank and Ronaldo on the pitch.

"There are very good results for the club with records here, there and everywhere but they are complicated with non-cash items and exceptional one-off hits."

Liverpool parallels
Gill also eased fears of parallels with Premier League rivals Liverpool, who are facing administration unless their current American owners clear their unpaid debts.

He said:"I can't speak for any other club but the United fans should not be concerned, we have a long-term financing structure in place, excellent revenues that are growing, we are controlling our costs - total wages are 46% of turnover - and we can afford the interest on our long-term finance.

"In our opinion if something changed in the ownership this club will survive and continue - it is covering the financing cost more than adequately.

"We still have cash to invest in players and to give good contracts to players and we are comfortable with the business model."

Who are comfortable with the bizz model more like...

"we're a middling club hamstrung by our value plan".

it was a struggle, but the thread did throw up one or two interesting points, including this one...

do you honestly believe that borsuk? personally i'd think that the customer focus of the match-day experience hasn't quite reached the levels feared in the early to mid 90s. there are more £#%&!ers true enough, but then the capacity has not far off doubled from the 45k that used to turn up before the End was bulldozed. there's probably the same percentages of people buying official and unofficial tat on match-days as well. in terms of TV obviously it's bigger and wider now, and clubs like United directly and indirectly rake subscriber's cash in in bucket loads. but United hasn't yet got its own TV rights, it's hardly touched Africa, it's only just at the tip of the iceberg as far as getting into Nth American homes goes (apparently) and Sth America again is untapped. there's been no real push for a Euro super league yet, and no genuine plans put forward to expand the Club World Cup either. basically there seems a way to go before we get close to seeing commercialisation undreamed of in the plc days imo, based on personal experience of what was quite widely feared and spoken about going back to the early days after the PL was formed.

We benefited as a club when floated. Short term gain and greed on the part of the bog sniffer left us open to this kind of aggressive takeover. The fact we had absolutely no say in this process is irrelevant. We played with the big boys and are getting royally £#%&!ed for it.

The reality is we've got a parasite and it's going to take a lot of pain the flush that £#%&!er. The only way there'll ever be mass boycotts will be on the back of prolonged failure. Too many reds can't or won't give it up.

Of course it's galling to see all that money: our money; being wasted like this, but before we were paying the dividends. The money was never being fully re-invested. It's just being frittered at a higher rate.

It's sad, but the best any red can do is give them £#%&! all. That and wait it out.

It'll come back eventually.

The above is obvious. Just wanted my two-penneth.

£#%&!ing great.

Not heard anything all day until on the way back from work and the first thing I hear is this. So, as I heard it, the @#%&!s took £81m from last years profit, just to service their debt. It's not gone on players, wages, tarting up OT in any way, on advertising and promoting our club etc - JUST on their debt.A few questions:

What happens next season when we haven't sold a player(s) for £80m? Where will these cancerous @#%&!s get the cash from? Shall we just say 'ta-ra' to Rooney, Nani et al now?

Does anyone still believe that Ferie has suitable and ready funds at his disposal?

How were they ever allowed to do this?I mean legally? It's like me wandering into a £50m hotel and saying "I'll take it!".Obviously, I wouldn't have the funds to pay for it but the banks saying "Dont worry about it Magic, I'm sure you're good for it".It's £#%&!ing mental.

I'm sure I heard a figure of £121m profit.I take it the other £40m has gone straight into the Glazer slush fund then.Anything right in that statement? If so, they're here forever until they die (which cant come soon enough. The more horrible death, the better). If not, whats the correct amount and where has it gone?

And every time I hear David £#%&!ing Gills voice, I want to stab the @#%&!s face in.

£#%&!ing @#%&!s.I'm phoning for a kebab.

I thought that was a bit of a myth, wasn't it just a way for the board to get money out of the club?

Well, it immediately provided funds for the redevelopment. Becoming a PLC arguably imposed a professionalism and culture of aggressive marketing expansion which was lacking in English football at the time. Man Utd pioneered that IMO, and for better or worse, provided a platform to take full advantage of the massive influx of tv money. As far as I can tell, that and the success presented happy bedfellows. Until those Ginger @#%&!s anyway.

What is Gill spouting about having £165mill in the bank for.
Its all a smokesceren.
You certainly dont go around telling everyone you have £x to spend or they hold out for the best price.

Its irrelevant I know but just a reflection of how bad things have become.

We never ever did things like that in the past

You do this everytime you join a big thread late.

We don't need an explanation of where you have been, we've not been sat here all day wondering why you haven't posted yet.

Was spoilt for choice really, could have just highlighted work and added a smiley
