As I said in the main match thread, would any other major European league mess their big clubs around like this?
You do realise of course that reeling off a list of excuses preceded by a "no excuses, but.." doesn't negate them, right? We also had a million excuses at the ready when we were actually decent and actually winning things; we just didn't need them.

Yes, we aren't as good now as when we were winning everything. Anything else to tell us?

talking of when we used to win stuff, i heard and read loads of people saying we'd never have played like we did at city when we used to win stuff.

how fantastic the 07/08 team was compared to this, they say.

Only that excuses tend not to assist in regaining that status, only prolonging the current one.

Fergie got called out for it, plus that was against peak Barca. not a middling Manchester City.

Fergie got "called out" for trying it a few years later against city and failing.

Was that the game in which we missed one penalty, should've had another and offered a threat on the break, throughout, and should probably have won?

It's a fair point, but it's never quite clear where pragmatism ends and fear begins. When we got our first corner at the Etihad and had three players in the box, the first thing I thought was 'uh oh'..

Are you suggesting Fergie never complained publicly about it?

Yes, a winning mentality can overcome such obstacles. As can squad rotation. Doesn't mean there isn't a cost involved. How many careers were £#%&!ed after we won the treble in 99? How many players are suffering injuries now as a result?

A manager can complain and make points publicly whilst telling the players to stop whinging and overcome the issue. Which I'm sure was what Fergie used to do.

tbf riccers just pointed out the lunacy of having a midday kick-off after playing on a Thursday night. And he's spot on.

so playing today at 12 made Rooney miss an open goal and upend an opponent 20 yards from goal............ Rooney scores from that 2nd half chance and does not touch the Swansea player and we win today...

We've never revelled in 12 o'clock kick offs, especially after European games that historically have nearly always been on a Wednesday.

It's a mitigating factor, as was the early injury but we should still be seeing off Swansea.
