Second half was shocking. Rooney called it absolutely right in his interview. We played well first half, some good football and got into some decent openings. Second half started well but before long was an anxious wreck of a performance. Crowd seemed dead and the players lacked composure. Didn't look like scoring in those last twenty minutes and PSV fed off the lack of confidence.

This has happened a few times where we've had to win games against resolute and stubborn opposition, where we make changes and then get considerably worse. I can't think of a game where bringing fellaini on and adopting that approach has bore any fruit at all.

The players don't seem familiar or comfortable with it, there's huge gaps between the forwards and the rest of the team and everyone seems generally lacklustre. It's almost like the players don't believe in what they're being asked to do in terms of that tactic.

Struggling for goals will always damage confidence, regardless of anything else. Against CSKA and Stoke we maintained composure and continuined to play football. Tonight was different. Would be interested to hear from those at the game, but the atmosphere seemed dead, which possibly fed into it. Either way, we need to maintain better composure in those situations.

Lack of threat from full-back a major problem. Shaw is clearly a huge miss, but I've got doubts about the signing of Darmian. Good defender at his best but is he really a guy who is going to help add to the threat in situations where we need inspiration and initiative?

There are definitely games where bringing Fellaini on has had a positive impact tbf.

The qualifier against Bruges the most obvious example

And others tbf. But it's weird that he's always the first sub. Always the go-to man around the hour. Regardless of the opponent or the type of match we're involved in. Best example of this was way in Eindhoven when he was brought on seemingly for the sake of it and killed our rhythm. We'd looked dangerous, Fellaini comes on and the whole thing grinds to a shitty standstill.

The Dutch press have been asking this. He doesn't seem to do anything.

I suppose that's always possible when the assistant is enforced by the club upon the new manager.

No because he has actually done much more for united than lingard and is actually good.

Lingard didnt really play badly, thats just how good he is.

darmian put in the most dangerous cross in the game.

PSV also fed off our relentless determination to pass them the ball.

For a team with a reputation for overstressing the importance of possession football we're not doing a bloody good job of it.

By the sounds of it I made a pretty good call in not watching this one.

It was dreadful tbf. Once schweinsteiger went off it was basically a soup of lethargic clowns floating around in an oversized bucket.

depay is shite btw. all that bulking up and he got muscled out of the game.

Still cannot believe how much the performance deteriorated in the 2nd half last night
If we had just kept playing like we had in the first 55 minutes and maybe raised the tempo a bit more then we would definitely have scored at least 1

Instead LvG absolutely kills our entire performance by bringing on that hairy oaf
First he plays him beside Schneiderlin in centre midfield to make sure there is no chance of a forward pass being played into our attacking players
Then he realises what a disastrous idea that is and moves him into the number 10 role and Rooney back into centre midfield were he will not try a leg defensively and were he will show no leadership but instead falls into self-indulgence of hitting Hollywood balls

A complete disaster of a last 30 minutes

We now probably need a win in Germany against a pretty decent side
Big ask given how we normally look away from home

Thumbs down

First time in his tenure last night when I genuinely started to question if this Dutch @#%&! in the dugout has a £#%&!ing clue.

That second half was utterly putrid. A total stain. Fair enough if the players were a bit tired, but those constant long balls from Rooney up to that freak. £#%&! off.

The most telling thing is that if we go out it will be fully deserved, and in what, on paper, appeared to be the easiest group, that is £#%&!ing pitiful.
