But patronising to suggest the working man don't like stats is it not?

It comes from the US. They're absolutely stat obsessed over there, and in fairness it has some merit. Personally I don't feel it translates as well to a fluid, dynamic game like football, although there's clearly something to be taken from it, if you know what you're doing and are open to new ideas.
There's some truth to this - although at the higher levels, it's the Germans who have used advanced analytics to best effect. One of the metrics they came up with is 'time between touches' and they found, not surprisingly, that good players take less time between their touches. Sounds obvious, but it means they can play out of pressure more easily.

There are some incredible analytic tools available these days, and they are useful for coaches. But I agree with Trippers that they give 'stats bores' a new arsenal of shite to pepper their blogs and articles with. No stat in isolation is very useful, so droning on about 'shots per game', for example, while ignoring the correlating efficiency of those shots is misleading and pointless.

Not sure what any of it has to do with the middle classes.

I've yet to speak to a MC nufootyfan who isn't stat this and stat that, meaningless, usually in no or completely out of context and saying more about what they don't know, than they do.

The same does not apply to my stalwart working class comrades

I get the impression the statto £#%&!wittery isn't driven so much by class prejudice () as by games like Football Manager, and fantasy football shit.

This so called knowledge is used by these nufans to create the impression that someone who has never kicked a ball in their life or watched hardly any live, has a inkling about the dynamics of the game or how it is, can or should be played. There are exceptions, but they are few.

Take this drivel as an example http://www.theguardian.com/football/...r-united-title Not only will this cretin be walking around priding himself on his 'knowledge' of the game, but he is actually earning a living from it (a very nice middle class one I've no doubt) and his idiotic followers will be quoting the meaningless shite chapter and verse in their offices and over lunch.

Just another example of how football has gone to the dogs, literally
It's not your game mate, stop living in the past.

Evolve or die out. Either way stop complaining.

There are actual conspiracies, yes. They coincide with conspiracy theorising less than some might wish, however.

I tend to take the Arthur Dent view, I'm not totally convinced New York actually existed so I can't miss it now it's gone.
