Default Culinary hacks

Or the best things in your pantry/kitchen cupboard/fridge that elevate your home cooked dishes.

Randomly bought a jar of this stuff, Laoganma sauce, from Sainsburys, because the woman on the label made me chuckle. Can't praise it highly enough, it's truly an outstanding addition/base to every stir fry I've had since.

Getting through a jar per week atm, at least. Dead simple to use, and at 2 pounds something a pop think I'll be living off the stuff sooner rather than later. Any similar recommendations would be appreciated, though...

Quaver dipped in milk + microwave (3 mins) = giant prawn cracker.

Marks and Sparks do a great stir fry deal for 6 quid. Go for the big bag of pre-chopped veg and you can feed 3 people, with a healthy and absolutely delicious meal everytime with the addition of a bit of Laoganma and/or chilli oil plus a dash of soy sauce.

Blackbean reds.

In all seriousness, really can't imagine how that particular combo tastes incredible, but will give it a go. Cheers (I hope).

Apparently if you keep fresh strawberries in a large glass jar in the fridge they will last much longer.

Interesting, and definitely worth trying (should there ever actually be a need to store fresh strawberries round ours: they tend to dissappear within 24 hours of purchase, due to those pesky kids).

Where do you get it from? How would you describe the taste?? Anything it particularly works well with???

Use a hard-bristled brush to scrub potatoes rather than peeling them.

Will try this, too. Is it available from all the usual supermarkets?
