They’re happy to drop £90m on a Pogba or a Lukaku etc. due to the marketing and attention it generates, they won’t get involved in a tussle for De Bruyne at £55m, as he was a kid with potential and they’d have to bid against City, who can pay the fee in one go.

City sign Sterling and KdB for £105m, we sign Pogba. Looks like we’ve spent a shit ton of money, but it’s not really, they’ll earn it back through marketing and whatnot and pay it over 6 years.

Yep. It’s reactive spending too. Biggest spends are usually after our worst seasons (apart from this one). It’s done in fear of missing out on CL revenue. When we show a little promise, we spend less. Most big spends are correcting mistakes, not progressing any one managers project. As much as I didn’t like Jose for us, he got absolutely shafted after the season we finished second. Van Gaal never seemed to get what he wanted. Now ETH is having the same old ‘work with what you’ve got’ problems and what we’ve got isn’t good enough.

It’s almost like the Utd haven’t actually spent a penny this year and are actually in profit and doing it through subtle accountancy that people don’t look into.
