Default Newcastle sign £25m a year sponsor deal

Up from £6,5m a season

Given that Sela is majority-owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which holds an 80% stake in Newcastle, the tie-up will automatically have to be scrutinised by an independent Premier League panel to determine whether it represents true market value.
course it does yer honour... just the 300% increase

That is market value or even below. Can't complain about that.

We got 47mil a year from teamviewer, Arsenal got 40mil from Emirates. Spurs even got 320 million pounds ($399.90 million) across eight years from AIA.

Fine. But they’re paying it to themselves, effectively.

Yeah exactly. If it was 'fair market value' then some other non affiliated company would be willing to pay it. If that was the case I can't see any reason why the owners would prefer to pay it themselves over the external investment

Given that they're now in the Champions' League, this'll be the maximum increase they believe they can get away with for the moment. It will not be the last such increase. The game is afoot once more.

You could argue that Sela are getting the sponsorship on the cheap when Newcastle could easily get more from other sponsors.

Surely they’d let the market decide it then?

Anyone affiliated to the owner's country shouldn't be allowed to sponsor them when it's a state-owned enterprise. It's a simple as that.

It's funny how these 'market value' sponsors never seem to be actually companies independent from the owners.

I think we all know the answer to that one.

I can’t even blame them at this stage. They’re just copying the Man City play book step by step. The Premier League and FA are as usual asleep at the wheel and don’t really seem to care about this sort of stuff until about 10 years too late.

Rest assured if Manchester United ever did anything like this there would be new laws published within a couple of weeks.

I get that the FA are seduced by the influx of money into the game - but the worldwide audience arent tuning in to see City and Newcastle - 2 nothing clubs - cleaning up through financial doping. It's so short-sighted.

It’s why nobody watches La liga any more or the bundesliga.

Watching 1 team hoover everything up with no competition is not interesting.

The annoying thing with this is that they're the same hacks who will have turned a blind eye to city doing it.

Love to see what would happen if an INEOS sub started sponsoring us for 100m a year.
