Default New contract for Gibson

3 years.
Quote:
Darron Gibson has agreed a three-year contract extension at Old Trafford and is aiming to challenge for regular first-team involvement.

The new deal keeps the 21-year-old Republic of Ireland international at the club until at least June 2012.

"I am very happy to commit my future to United," Darron told ManUtd.com.

"Last season I enjoyed every opportunity and when I got my chance I wanted to prove what I could do. I hope to continue that this season."

Gibson made 14 appearances for the Reds last season, playing an integral part in United's Carling Cup triumph. He also scored three goals, including an outstanding long-distance effort against Hull City on the final day of the league season.

Sir Alex Ferguson says Gibson expects even more from the Irish central midfielder this season.

"Darron was one of the young players who emerged last season as a United first-team player," he told us.

Retaining sell on value. Would be surprised if he doesn't go next summer.

I thought he would get a new one, deserves another year to push on. We can always sell him next year if he doesn't improve, no loss to us.

Looks like we won't be signing a midfielder then.

I think he'll develop into a great player for us, the amount of shit he gets is unreal. I'm one of Andersons biggest fans and I think he'll go onto be one of the best in the world but for me Gibson has been as good as if not better than Anderson.

he's not a bad player, i just think he lacks the bit of pace that would make him a real quality player, like others have said its all about saleability for next season.

with fletcher and evans probably the most improved player in the squad last season. when he was played in the centre he didn't look out of place at all. just keep him off the right wing.

certainly showed enough to be given some more chances.

even though he's Irish, he fits into the 6+5 thing too so it's well worth sticking around from his point of view

Gibson is a much better player than Fletcher was at his age.

I like him a lot tbh.

We haven't too many players in the set-up that could score the goal he got against Hull.

He's got his problems but if you look at what we got out of our faith in Fletcher (and by our I of course mean scarcely anyone on here) then he's got more in his locker alright.
