Default United appoint Football and Technical Directors

https://www.manutd.com/en/amp/news/d...mpression=true

About time

Edit. It’s a promotion from within which means it’s bullshit. Basically a role created where the control and outlook of the look stays the same

I was thinking that but I am sceptical now as they have promoted a person from within the club. Sounds to me more like a title role where we have no real change.

Who is John Murtough? Everything we know about Man Utd's new football director and his role

Quote:
  • Murtough started his career as a sports scientist at Everton under former Manchester United manager David Moyes.
  • He worked his way up to become their Head of Performance before leaving in 2012 to become Head of Elite Performance at the Premier League.
  • In 2013, he followed Moyes to Old Trafford and became Head of Football Development.
  • He has become a close confidant of Ed Woodward having helped put the pathway in place which has produced Scott The Scottish Player, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and other top talents.
  • He has overseen the United academy as well as leading an expansion of the scouting department and network.
  • United have signed several talented youngsters in recent years with Murtough believed to be involved. For example, it was reported he travelled to Norway with French youth scout Mathieu Seckinger to watch Hannibal Mejbri as a 16-year-old before they splashed the cash to sign him from Monaco.
  • According to Training Ground Guru, Murtough has also headed up special projects, such as developing a data science strategy similar to the ones use by rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.
Sounds like he knows what he's doing so at least it's something.

Big Darren getting involved as well

Thumbs down

What a £#%&!ing joke.

Basically confirms how the Glazers have no interest in any radical changes.

Years spent arsing about with Director of Football rumours, and they just give it to some yes man who's already here.

Incredible that after a rigorous appraisal of the global labour market that the right men were within the club all along

after a long and extensive period of recruitment we've found two of the best available candidates that were available for 50p a year.

Darren’s stellar achievements as a player and his own journey from Academy to Premier League and Champions League winner means he naturally commands respect and understands this vital part of the club’s DNA.

Tbf he seems to be doing a pretty good job so far. Our academy and youth set ups were awful under Feries's last few years which meant players ended up signing for City. Now it's the other way round and the youngsters look better than ever both local and internationally recruitment wise. If he brings this to the senior set up then it might make a difference instead of Ed farting about doing one transfer at a time for weeks on end.
