It's not just that they're goalkeepers, it's the fact that they're distinctly average ones.

If DDG, Neuer etc... went for that it would be fair enough but this is mental.

To think we almost lost DDG a couple of seasons ago for £25m . He must be worth about £150m now.

His buyout clause was 20m apparently,but has since signed a new contract.

Bilbao lads are loyal. He wouldn’t have done them dirty on a bosman, even though it could have earned him tens of millions. Was probably always going to re-sign.

He didn’t have a buyout clause, around £20m is the compensation Bilbao would have received as he could have signed a pre-contract in Jan, as he’s a youth product. They certainly weren’t offering him about though, Bilbao were desperate to get him into a new deal, and I think the word at the time was he signed it because he didn’t want to £#%&! Bilbao over. Proud Basque lad.

Chelsea have triggered the release clause from his new contract I think.

You could be right pal, but at the time he was allegedly very close to joining Madrid and the talk was of a compensation fee because he was an academy product.

I think my main point is that Castles is talking shite, there was no possibility of Chelsea signing him for £20m in Jan, and he certainly wasn’t being offered around.

I haven’t seen the castles article, but my guess is he means Chelsea could have signed him for 20m because he had the release clause. Not that Bilbao we’re looking to sell or even Chelsea were actuallly in for him.

It’s the kind of speculative stuff that gets written about when it comes to us tbf, so it makes a change when it’s another club.
