Default The Socialist Utopia of Venezuela Refugee Crisis

https://www.theguardian.com/global-d...ps-in-pictures

The Guardian tying it self in knots trying on this one. They’ve settled for a photo journal with firsthand eyewitness testimony that go without any editorial comment or analysis of the causes of the crisis.

Damning stuff. Yet not a cause celebre. What factors could be behind the curious lack of indignation and rancour directed at the head of state and ruling ideology?

What do the refugees people say then?

Quote:
Robert Antonio Rodriguez, 25

‘I left Venezuela because of political persecution. I’m a member of the Justice Party (MPJ) and have been imprisoned four times. After the last time we left for our protection. I’m not the only one getting death threats, it happens everywhere. I will only go back if there is a political amnesty.
Bloody fascists, eh? We need the likes of Corbz and Criado-Perez perhaps a luvvie or two to stand up to these nazis. Benedict Cumberbatch will have a word or two to say about this I reckon.

Quote:
Angela Carolina Salazar, 29: ‘My husband sold his car and came before us. He picked up odd jobs and sent us money in El Tigre and we got to Brazil in May. Everything was decaying in Venezuela. It was too expensive to buy corn and we couldn’t get yuca. To buy a chicken cost a month’s wages. For a while we ate nothing but mangoes.
Capitalists and their insatiable selfishness and greed are behind this no doubt. What they need is some compassionate leftist folk in charge to redistribute the wealth. Where’s Harry Leslie Smith when you need him?

Quote:
’ Edgar Jose Eduardo Carvajal, 27 : ‘It’s very complicated here. Some Brazilians are welcoming but others don’t want us to take the jobs and so there is discrimination. If they hear Spanish, they tell you to get lost. All we want is to work’

Complicated? Dont hunk so. Bloody racist those Brazilians. But hang on a second, I thought anti immigrantion sentiment was caused by brexit and nigel farage and the daily mail? Hmm, could economic pressures and cultural differences have something to do with it? Nah. They’re all thick.

Quote:
Venezuelans can get a work permit in Brazil and some go back and forth to help relatives at home, says Mansur. But Boa Vista – which has a population of almost 280,000 and where the public sector is the main employer – can’t absorb thousands of new arrivals.
Well, this is puzzling. It seems to be an acceptance that a large influx of people to economically deprived areas isn’t sustaninable and causes problems. Nope, they must just be bloody small minded bigots like over here.

Quote:
Angelica Inojosa, 44

‘I came to Brazil because the political situation in Venezuela was intolerable. I used to be in the army and had to leave because I didn’t back the government. I joined the NUVIPA (New Vision for my Country) party and demonstrated against [President] Maduro. They threatened me and they kidnapped one of my sons, who was in the military academy. I think they wanted to kill him but they let him go. His godfather, who was also in the army, has disappeared. I also had a farm but it became impossible because of the taxes they took from us. We’ve suffered a lot, it’s really hard’
The right to Free speech doesnt mean the right to hate speech, eh comrades? And the socialist republic will be better off without these vile profit oriented bourgeois capitalist tax dodgers.

Quote:
Argenio Velasquez, 30

‘I came here a few months ago with my wife and two children. Like a lot of people, we left Venezuela for our survival – we had nothing to eat.
Bloody western meddling. This wouldnt have happened if they’d stayed in the EU or something.

Bit more complicated than that though when you’re being strangled by the capitalist countries around you isn’t it?

Knew it. Bloody capitalism. If only they had some kind of essential natural resourse to sell.

I wonder, and this is just a long shot, if socialist ecomonic policies actually exacerbate the problems they purport to solve? If only there was some kind of historical record to check.

People dying of starvation and Irk want's to make political capital from it.

The ghost of Margret Thatcher inhabits your soul.

Remind that me that criticism is verboten next time someone mentions any political issue in negative terms.

Margaret Thatcher saved this country from a Venezuelan style collapse.

Are you saying the socialist government is being undermined by the bourgeois counter revolutionary forces beyon its control? Where’ve have I heard that before? It seems they’ve already moved to the rounding up the Kulaks stage.
