M.E.N. Sport understands the 28-year-old trained earlier this week but complained his groin was sore and had surgery on it on Thursday.

Mata has never missed a United game through injury in over three years at the club but could be sidelined for the rest of a hectic campaign which includes nine fixtures in April alone.

Well they're certainly dropping like flies during the most important part of the season. great.

Angel Gomes is a fantastic player but it is a bit too young.

I am not a fan of lingard but there is a good position for him on the right for the season but he has to do more.

Mata with pace would be one of the best 10 players in Europe.
