Meanwhile, our rivals for the title scab a win, helped by scandalously incompetent defending. THEY - despite one of their worst seasons (until then!) in living memory - cannot contain their happiness. A gloating banner is unveiled - "have you ever seen Man United win the League??"

After the game, Vermin fans approach our players - in seeming friendliness, and ask for their autographs. Despite their devastation, the players agree. The autographs are gleefully ripped up, spat on and stamped upon.
