Default A Thread to Hope Your Hands Up - What football calls have you got wrong?

It’s a hot topic on here and I think we should all be able to acknowledge when we’ve got it wrong.

Here are a few of my awful calls -
- I thought AWB was going to be England’s main right back and one of the best in the country by now. I was wrong.
- I thought Ole had what it takes. I was wrong.
- I thought we’d sign Frenkie de Jong. I was probably wrong.
- I think Martial will be our top scorer this season. I’m probably wrong.

Will think of some more and definitely add to the list.

What have you got wrong?

Stoney invited me into the execs once

I wore a suit

Everyone else was smart/casual

Felt a right ‘nana

I thought Mourinho would be hugely successful for us.
Ditto Gary Birtles

I thought Harry Maguire would be a good signing.

I remember getting into a discussion with a taxi driver once and came out with the memorable line "Mark my words, by the end of the season you'll be thanking your lucky stars that Fergie bought Massimo Taibi"

My knack for prophecy has remained similarly impressive to this day.

wonderful

Be very interesting to see who avoids this thread. Very interesting indeed.

I should add, those who wish to call out others in this thread are also more than welcome to contribute.

Let’s heal.

Thought LVG would lead us to a domestic treble in Y1

Veron would guarantee us a European Cup

Lost the 2012 league due to lack of Cleverly (stand by this)

The day before Fergie retired I was confidently telling a former fredster that there was no chance he was retiring, even if he did there was no chance it would be Moyes and even if Moyes got the gig we were far too big to fail and it was impossible for us to fall out of the top 4

Disclaimer, I'm Trans-Dutxh.

Thought Buttner was the white Evra
LVG would bring us back to the top
Jury is out on one of my favourite players, Donny

Also thought LVG was going to smash it with us. I still think he was done dirty by the owners though. £#%&!ing Sniderlin, no way he wanted him.

sign of the times though...he got 4 games, including a MOM performance at Anfield iirc, and everyone stank the place out at Stamford Bridge in one of those 4 games too.

nowadays you get to be turd for years on end before flushing..

Ooh this is a tough one...

Thought Maguire would be decent for us. Or at least have some mental fortitude about him.

Thought replacing Cantona with Sheringham was madness.

I thought LVG would do better than he did and have us playing total football within 6 weeks.

... ok i'm struggling..

Loooooaaaads

Anyone that says any different is a liar.

Capt Mag and AWB being good signings are the most recent ones
Rvp would flop while Kagawa would be a success
Mou would win us the league
Fergie was past it around 2005
We should have signed Thomas Sørensen to replace big Pete.

Sport and in particular football has a habit of making us all look like a fools

I think everyone thought we’d win a league under Mou. Even his second spell at Chelsea, where it really went wrong for him, he managed a league title. We really got the shit end of the stick there.

At least you weren’t holding up a bedsheet saying “Fergie out” back in 05 though. That would be really embarrassing.

Jamie Vardy will never regularly score goals.
Veron our best signing in years
RVN looks a bit awkward and clumsy
Anderson will be one of the best midfielders in the world
Moyes will do ok
Rio was overrated (before he joined us)
Teddy Sheringham will flop
Januzaj was the real deal
