Unlike Moyes or LVG Jose left us stronger than he found us. Moyes was incompetent but LVG destroyed this club and set us back 5 years.

He sold key players and replaced them with deadwood that we still havent shifted entirely. He left us with no spine to speak of both in terms of positions and mentality.

First thing Jose did was give us a spine again, it wasn't perfect but we had one!

His personality problems ruined him but his reputation and hunger to win and exact standards dug us out of a horrible ditch where not winning had become acceptable, players were bland and timid and micromanaged to death.

£#%&! LVG. Can't believe he still has loyalists who can't see the damage he did.

Lvg has his flaws, and yet Rashford and martial, our two brightest prospects, are here because of him. Bringing youth through has always been expected of a Utd manager so he was more a United manager in that sense than mourinho ever was.

Of course, there will be those that don't really 'get' United - the internet fans in their Scandinavian hovels that have never truly understood what it means to be a Red, and will argue about how Mourinho "won trophies", and reel off meaningless OptaJoe statistics about win ratios. These are, however, all moot points when we're discussing a manager who, at his very core, was the antithesis of this football club.

Since his first arrival at United, Mourinho quietly went about implementing his poisonous philosophy, and eventually his toxic personality had spread across the entire club, leaving a dressing room that was embittered and uninspired, and a fanbase that was completely disillusioned. Disgusting, shit-on-a-stick negative football, and absolutely zero development of youth players were predictable hallmarks of his regime from the off, but the vocal protestations in his second season that the club have had a consistent history of failing in Europe, and the voluntary suicidal team selections in his third season in order to make a point to the board about lack of summer investment, not only showed that this was a man that believed he was bigger than the club, but that this was a man that would place his ego so high, that he would willingly insult the club, and publicly shit on it's proud history; a history founded upon the principles of the great Sir Matt Busby, that should forever be at the forefront of the mind of every Manchester United manager.

Moyes was an incompetent idiot out of his depth, who was nevertheless honest; Van Gaal was a man of integrity and respectable footballing principles, who was simply in the right job at the wrong time; Jose Mourinho was a disease - a horrible, insecure, poisonous little man, who stands alone as the worst part of the post-Ferguson Manchester United.

Goodbye, and good riddance. His expulsion is the perfect Christmas present, and now the healing can begin.
But if he'd just got Harry Maguire...

Mercurial temperament and by all accounts downright unpleasant.
That Sevilla game for me was the turning point.

He's gone though !
Merry Christmas Fredsters.
Agreed. It was his reaction more than anything, talking down the club and dismissive of the fans anger.

Don't hate the guy but his self absorption was at its height this season. "respect, respect, respect". All about him not the team.

In one match Ole has lifted the mood and that doesn't cost anything.

Still, Woodward and the Glazers are a corrosive presence in the club and also need to go.

Drop me a location for this afternoon and I'll gladly open your head up and empty the minimal contents onto the cold concrete.

Bring your kids, too, so they can have a nice little Christmas present seeing their joke of a dad get deservedly hospitalised.

fantastic post, but i feel there is a case of rose tinted specs here.

moyes made a lot of comments that showed a lack of respect to the club and its fans. "we aspire to be like city", "we'll try to beat newcastle", etc. like jose, his attitude to our poor form under him seemed to be that it was everyone else's fault but his own. he wasn't borderline insane like jose, but he was a complete idiot.

van gaal showed that he could get us playing some great stuff at times, case in point being those wins against liverpool and city in his first season, not to mention his netherlands team's destruction of spain in the world cup, but he suddenly decided to £#%&! the attacking football we played in those games off for dull, safety first football. he has been a man of integrity and respectable footballing principles in the past - but he rarely displayed that at united. shame because if he stuck to that style we could have done very well with him.

otherwise, spot on. i really wanted it to work out for jose, and at times it looked like it was maybe starting to click, but his attitude was just too poisonous.

Ramos says he'll leave if Jose goes back to Real Madrid.

He really is a ray of sunshine isn't he?
