At one point he was close to the half way line

Didn’t need to be there and Martinez dealt with it, but still…

Don't think we've played out from the back for the past two games now, either? May have the odd time but looks like we've sacked it off after the Brentford game.

The revolutionary tactic of keeping the ball as far away from as possible helps, still got everyone shitting themselves as cross after cross is piled in and he remains rigid a yard from his line like a rabbit in the headlights. He’s got to go.

I think it’ll depend on the opponent. Probably a good idea to shelve it for now to help build a bit of confidence. I’m sure it’ll return. Shows ETH’s adaptability IMO

First clean sheet bonus for him, for a while.

Fine today. Decent save and even came and punched a cross

I wonder how much of dropping the passing out is tactical due to opposition and how much is just playing to his strengths.

Is Dubravka good with the ball at his feet, because otherwise what's the point in buying him?

But with de Gea it's clear it's not just the deep crosses. His inability to distribute the ball under pressure is affecting the way we play. I really do think loaning Henderson was a mistake, he should our no.1 this season while we sort out the midfield and attack.

Wondered the same…

Then found something on Twitter saying he’s the quintessential sweeper keeper

Probably isn’t but I guess we’ll soon find out.

Very steady today and came off his line more. We went long when needed and short at the right time.

The whole defence today was terrific and played as a unit.

“Great save”

It would have been questionable goalkeeping if Aribos header had beaten him.

Point blank header. Any save from that distance is top notch.

It was a solid instinctive save. The kind he’s good at. I’m more pleased that he was generally more steady.

He was alright, the saves he made are saves you'd expect your keeper to making in the Premier League. It's a massive improvement on throwing them in against Brentford, but nothing to write home about.

He's not a sweeper keeper, never will be. There were times he should have been much higher up the pitch when we were in possession. He's not brave and/or strong enough to dominate his area. There was a point yesterday where an early release and a counter was on, and instead he bottled out of quick throw and it slowed everything down. If that was Schmeichel or VDS that balls getting thrown to anyone within 50 yards of them when a counter is on.

What we lose having De Gea isn't worth the 2-3 certain goals he might stop over the course of a season. Especially when he's already thrown 2 into his own net 4 games into the season.

4* Brighton and the third at Brentford were his fault ..

All of this.

He’s not the keeper to take us to where we want to be.

Should’ve been binned;sold near the end of the first contract.

What do we do? Give the £#%&!er the most lucrative deal in the game.

Absolute shambles of a club.

Hopefully on the mend.

Too true - his reaction saves off his line can be good but he offers nothing outside of that and when he starts making total blunders even they become worthless.

.
He hesitated for a minute with the throw and the chance had gone...perhaps he's worried about making a mistake..
