Like I say if Erik was gone tomorrow I’d probably go Emery.

UEFA cup with Sevilla 3 times
UEFA with Villarreal
Win trophies with PSG
Got Villa into Europe from relegation spots
Arsenal uefa final.

Clearly defined style. Improves players. Won stuff with 3 different clubs so has repeated success. Knows the PL, managed modern day big egos . Definitely pick him over Potter
Think I’m on the Emery bus once Erik is dispatched (probs end of this season).

It wouldn’t be an exciting appointment but quite sensible. Plus he’s gettable.

We lost one game in 9 (played really poor tbh and had the ultimate kick in the teeth winner) everyone's head fell off....

Media, talksport narratives, MNF, Podcasts and the usual always online folK Jumped all over it as a chance to put the boot in....

It just seems nowadays negativity sells, people enjoy it, wallow in it. ...

To give you some context.

David ‘Moysie’ Moyes - ex Everton manager when we got him. Absolutely rank average in every sense. Death pallor.
LVG - a retired national manager who was past his sell by date and before this season, played the worst football I’ve ever seen.
Mou - a narcissistic #@&%! who was absolutely 100% past his prime
Ole - an ex Cardiff manager now managing his sons under 15’s

What have we become?

The Moyes appointment seems even more insane now than it did back then.

LvG, Moureen and Ole after his good caretaker stint all make more sense than £#%&!ing Moyes.

Yeah. A dour, raggedy headed, miserable dick of a man that torpedoed us below the plimsoll line, something we may not ever recover from. Can’t abide him.

More to the point, failed at a club with strikingly similar problems to our own.

I am willing to give anybody a chance (well, maybe not Gollum) but no I'm just not seeing it - so would be genuinely interested to know just why SJR rates him.

I don't think anyone rates Potter as some sort of genius. They rate him as a safe pair of hands.

There's ideologue managers like jose/pep and then there's people like potter/howe who manage players. Sven and Southgate are similar. They've no real tactical vision, they use the best conventional wisdom and back the players to bring results.

Good points, but has Jim seen our "players" when the chips are down.....

We'd be relegated under potter....

Everyone’s still missing the point (or not listening). They want someone to implement their plan. Which includes our style of play. Personality, or individuality, or something that differentiates “you” from another “manager”, is the last thing they want.

We are now in the realm of “director of football”. Whatever that means……. apart from being even more remote from the match to match, see it by the side of the pitch, connection that we should have with the club.

A manager is judged by his (or her) results. A director of football is always let down by a coach not implementing their plans. It’s never their fault.

Feel free to pile in, but I can only recall great teams being great (and clubs having sustained spells of success) because of their manager, not because of the “vision” of the owners.

We may not like The Bald One or the Toothy One (in the same way that everyone else hated Alex) but don’t pretend their team’s success was not down to them but was the product of some new fangled way of running a club.

We are now truly in the corporate world.

Loose links to De Zerbi and hey presto it's another defeat by 3+ goals for Brighton. Their win at Old Trafford last September is starting to look a poor defeat in hindsight.
