I always belived that there was a rule that if you pulled out of an international squad with a supposed injury you were not allowed to play in the next match for your club.

If so why was Stirling playing yesterday or is it another rule that the berties are exempt from?

It was deffo a rule at least up to a few years ago and didn't apply to friendly internationals but played could be made to turn up for international duty to be assessed by the national teams medics.

It was up to the national team (manager) to agree with the club concerned over a players fitness so obviously deals were done not to play in certain games, usually friendlys but not others.

I remember Vaduka when he was at Leeds having to fly to South America to be assessed as Australia were playing there. If he would have gone he would have been suspended.

Basicly you can't just pull out of an international squad because the club don't want you to play.
