Remember back in 2007 people in this country absolutely hated him and called him "over rated"

Still can't believe we didn't even get so much as a £#%&!ing bus parade in 2008. An absolute scandal.

They'd have to win 3 champions league trophies and have a body chiselled from gods own mould to pull it off though...he's an utter bell but fair play to him..

Including plenty of reds, mainly the chin-stroking types whose hearts can't handle risk-taking players, despise wingers and would prefer an entire team of safety-first short passers. 'No end product'. Good god, I could have some fun with the RI archives from 2005-07.

Thank £#%&! I wasn't on RI then, not that I didn't rate Cristiano but there'd have been a million posts shiting about the state of our midfield. Couldn't happen now.

All fair. He 'deserves' to be a bell. Truly one of the best ever. And the best are usually #@&%!s (michael jordan, maradona, tiger woods)

And maybe it's just my prudish culture.

He may be a preening, arrogant #@&%!. But he's a £#%&!ing decent bloke going off the snippets you get about his charitable works and whatnot.

That "no end product" thing used to rustle my jimmies on so many levels.

Firstly because everyone used to say it in Mark Lawrenson's voice, not just Mark Lawrenson.

Secondly because it wasn't actually true.

Thirdly because it was a hideous bit of marketing speak that had insidiously crept into sports commentary.

And mostly because it's a £#%&!ing tautology.
