he's a pragmatist though. and spending 55m in someone would suggest he's more interested in personnel than the formation. I can see us changing at the drop of a hat.

agree with this as the likely situation

He's more of an assist man than a goal scorer which is why he's doesn't get the headlines someone like Bale would get but Di Maria was MOTM in the European Cup Final and you don't get a much more "worldly " level than that

As wide players go he's more a Giggs than a Ronaldo or Robben

I know it seems that we have to get RvP and Rooney on the same pitch but Rooney is shite out wide these days

You only need to see him out wide against Italy at the WC to understand that and Januzaj & Di Maria are much better players out wide in a front 3 than Rooney is in a wide forward role

It will be interesting to see how this pans out over the next year or so
