How did Pereira do btw?

Oh, and...

Probably should've told Sparky he was going to chuck one

Yes but that was just a preseason game.

The result is pretty much whatever...doesn't matter

the performance is what matters. If these are indeed 'training' games one wonders what exactly the players learned last night apart from how to chase shadows on a terrible pitch in boiling heat.

There was absolutely no cohesion across the pitch, our defenders still can't pass a football when placed under even the most minimum of pressure and the only goalscorer in our entire squad looked isolated and had zero effect on the game.

And yet again the usual suspects spent the 2nd half aiming every shot straight at the opposition goalkeeper.

There isn't enough 'training games' in the world to solve our problems.

Pre season is about fitness. Nothing more. It's never going to provide solutions for any issues within a team.

But it is about more than fitness
It's the one time at a top club that you get to really train and coach your team

During the season at a top club you only get recuperation and preparing for the next opponent in-between matches
In pre-season you can really drill players into the sort of team you want

Let's see how the season starts when the competitive games get underway but I'm still not seeing a team coming together with a clear pattern of play that works
We often look like a bunch of individuals playing together for the first time

true. shame his distribution is shit, but at least he doesn't hang about. our only proper defender.

he had at least three very presentable chances in the first half alone - rashford's crossing is excellent - and he mistimed every attempt, only even getting a foot to one. we will need the opposition defending on the half-way line for him to look good, I'm afraid.

as always. we created some chances and the goal they scored was a combination of bad luck and dodgy refereeing. however, they could have scored about six in the first half and we gave the ball away constantly. if the suggestion is that they will get fit enough to make the hopeful clearances look good, then I can only applaud the ridiculous optimism.

if you're a top coach. we did see that famous 7-man defensive line a couple of time last night, though. I tip my hat to the master and his 2-man midfields (one of whom is a wanderer). if the @#%&! hasn't worked out to play at least 3 in midfield against a team like barca, he will never £#%&!ing learn. lingard and mkhit might as well not have been on the pitch.

there's not much jose can do about darmian, blind, fellaini and jones except buy some better players, though.

reading into preseason games

when we win the other team was shit and not ready, when we play well for a half it was lucky. When we play shit for a half we look tired and unprepared, when we lose a game we need to sell everyone. When we win it was stupid to keep the players on that long. When we lose we should not have played those players in that formation.

it's not about winning or losing, it's whether we look like any kind of cohesive unit. and we don't. and we never do.

We look pretty cohesive last season to be fair when we won two trophies and qualified for the Champions League. I may have shit in my eyes, though.

We did?

We did about enough to win them but some of the performances in the late stages of both those comps were pretty ropey.

Hull City we actually lost the second game but went through on aggregate
Celta Vigo we were great in the away leg but pretty poor in the return and lucky that £#%&!ing goon missed an open goal with the last kick which would've knocked us out

Glad we won but it wasn't altogether convincing.
