There is nothing worse than lumpy gravy from a chippy, i have to fork out any lumps if there are any otherwise i start heaving. And god forbid if they put onions in it.

And curry with sultanas in, what's all that about??

As for the amounts, there should just be enough to slightly cover the chips on top so you still get some nice unsodden chips at the bottom.

best way i find, get a portion of chips, and a tub of gravy/curry, that way, pour it on at home, chips are still lovely then

Correct, i never used to want to do that though afterwards. I used to do this years ago with just the vinegar, the salt is proper chips salt though and i don't think it would be as nice with anything other than chips.

Your missus wants shooting for buying that awful lo-salt stuff, horrid.

In my experience of chippys and there have been 1 or 2, one occasionally comes across a stupendous gravy or curry sauce. Our local chippy makes a tremendous effort on both fronts, so much so I suspect they put drugs in the mix.

Denis next time you are working in or around the Widnes area get to Marie's chippy(map above) in milfield road its the dogs balls ask OTbarney or Kinky afro,its a top English fish and chips chippy,its got a old English chippy menu(fish,pie,gravy,mushy peas,fritters,crispy bits if yer lucky),my recommendation is small mixture(mixture is chips and peas,i know they don't call it that in Bury...i asked once and they didn't have a clue what i was on about)...small mixture and curry with a proper battered fish(not fish piece)..telling yer mate,it will finish you off.
