How about Sane’s a better player, works harder and doesn’t give up?

Does a wide player making smart runs over and over -knowing full well he’ll receive the ball fairly infrequently, but doing it anyway- help loosen up the defence, create passing options/outlets, and help forward momentum, or is it all about what everybody else does, and if they don’t lay it on a plate for Martial is it written in stone that’ll he’ll have a bad game?

Could be I suppose.
Genuinely that's your point? So it was Martial's play specifically that was no good for loosening up defences? Funny because I watched 50 odd games last year where we poured forward with the pace of an asthmatic with a tight hamstring and a stitch.

Did Sanchez making runs unexpectedly loosen up defences? Rashford? Pogba? Mata?

Put Sane in our team and he'd have less assists, City arrive at the opposition box with the defence running towards their own goal trying to set up, we arrive at the opposition box evwntually to face to set banks of four within 20 yards of the opposition goal, but that's about Chris Smallings distribution obviously.

Martial had more goals and assists than Sanchez, so did Mkhitaryan but he was another one that wasn't up to par to play in Mou's magical footballing circus. In terms of goalscoring Martial scored 9 playing off the wing and Sane scored 10, assists is where Sane does a lot better but that's down to his runs obviously, nothing to do with the system, coaching or teammates.

Mou's such a genius with his system where we drop specialist full backs because they offer nothing going forward and get rid of wingers because they won't defend, but yeah it's the young players that are the problem.

People giving you the mike drop like the Soccer Saturday pundits laughing at Chris Kamara making a @#%&! of himself at some championship game.

Thought it was fairly obvious, they aren't excuses merely context. Martial is a talent, put him in a team that attacks in the numbers City/Liverpool do and he would show it. Likewise just about all attacking players from either club would look worse in our team because the system strangles them.

Compare our approach against similar opposition, while Liverpool went all out attack away against Porto and bagged 5 goals we played not to lose in the first leg and hoofball from kick off in the second leg vs Sevilla. If people want to argue that our results would dip with such an approach I would disagree but it is as least plausible, to argue that the system shouldn't stymie the attacking talent is ridiculous.

Thought a swap for Willian was the obvious call. 2 players who don’t want to be where they are . Willian almost pleaded for Utd to come after him reading his comments earlier this week.
Anyway, enough bitching. This is what we have, let’s get behind the manager & the team.

Anthony Martial no longer wants to leave Manchester United and is ready to turn his career around under Jose Mourinho, claims The Sun.

Martial’s agent revealed at the start of the summer his client wanted to leave Old Trafford after failing to win over Mourinho in the last two years.

The 22-year-old missed out on a spot in France’s squad for the 2018 World Cup and emerged as a transfer target for Tottenham and Chelsea.

Mourinho was willing to sell the talented forward this summer but United blocked his exit and ruled out a move to a direct Premier League rival.

The Red Devils fined Martial £180,000 after going AWOL during United’s pre-season tour and there appeared no way back for the No.11.

The transfer window for other European leagues is still open but Martial has made a stunning u-turn on his future at the club.

So what would Martial have to do before you’d stop blaming everyone else; Sit down in the centre circle and make a daisy chain perhaps? Anyone with a pair of eyes can see the way he plays; static, wide, ball to feet every time and face up the right back. So is it our play that stymies Martial’s adventurous spirit, or or his absolute reluctance to dictate the flow by making smart runs independently and ahead of the ball that -in part- stymies our momentum?

Is Mourinho coaching him to constantly be 20 yards behind the play when the play’s advancing down the right then? To rarely show the desire to get himself into dangerous positions in the box? Is he being instructed to never sprint unless the ball’s at his feet? If so, then I’d suggest he’s following his instructions to the letter and I can’t for the life of me understand why he’d be dropped.

You’d think we will have seen enough top quality wide players over the years that we’d recognise a lazy @#%&! when we see one. Even Scholes pointed out his obvious lack of desire early doors, before his nemesis even arrived at the club, but no, you go ahead and keep blaming everyone from the groundsman to Mike Keegan. Your stats will never trump what’s right in front of our faces mate.
