Default Barca or Schalke

Who do you want in the next round ???

Tricky one this, Barca on their day can beat anybody, but over the last few years we have a terrible record against German teams (Not including Munich in '99)

And yes I know we aren't through yet, but it would take an enormous #@&%!-up and gross incompetence to £#%&! it up from here.

Barcelona.

A proper European glamour tie, two teams with great tradition hopefully trading goals for fun à la the 3-3s in 1999.

Schalke would be a belting away.

Somewhere new, and German aways are usually very well organised and a good trip.

The 'Glamour tie' aspect appeals to me, and it would be nice to actually play and win, a battle of European superpowers.

Having said that, I am extremely wary of the 'Cup Final' factor that seems to inspire even the 'Big Boys'(witness Milan last year and Real Madrid in 2003 as recent examples) suddenly turning up after months of absenteeism.

It would be nice to play Schalke though, as we've never played them before and probably won't get another opportunity in the near future, plus, we could, conceivably, put the game to bed in 1 leg.

Just like we SHOULD'VE done with Leverkusen

In fairness though, this Schalke side has got nothing of that Leverkusen team, really, they look far inferior.

Yeah, I know. I'm just being a @#%&!

I think we drew Leverkusen the following season and beat them home & away.

Saying that - the Leverkusen that ko'd us had a rather tasty Ballack playing for them. He was the driving force behind that team. Possibly the best midfielder around at that time.

And Lucio in imperious form, plus Ze Roberto on the flank, Neuville up front, the little @#%&! and Carsten '£#%&!ing' Ramelow, then there was the other centre half, Nowotny?. I'm sure there was someone on RI saying we should sign Ramelow for £#%&!ing ages.

In fact, they were rather a good side at the time.

We still should've £#%&!ing panned them.

Barca might turn us over.

Yeah, he was another good 'un.

Was Berbatov there at the time as well?

They had a damn good team in hindsight.

yes he came on as sub with 20mins to go in the final

i watched a rerun of that the other week when i was in Italy

how Leverkusen didn't equalise will remain a mystery. Casillas came on as sub and made 4 absolutely world class saves, they hit the woodwork etc. Ballack was imperious
