However, some animals are better mascots. A lion is probably the best non fiction animal IMHO. |

So looks like England aren't the only nation to pillage Africa of their identity and fauna.
England - Three Lions Cuba - Caribbean Lions Bulgaria - The Lions Luxembourg - The Lions Singapore - Lions Iraq - Lions of Mesopotamia Afghanistan - Lions of Khorasan Cameroon - Indomitable Lions Morocco - Lions of the Atlas Senegal - Lions of Teranga Starting to think Lion is a bit overused to be honest, there are numerous creatures that are seriously under represented when it comes to National Team Nicknames. Tigers for instance, which could annihilate a Lion any day of the week, have never appeared at a World Cup (India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Bangladesh) Same goes for Sharks (Cape Verde), Wolves (Mongolia, Uzbekistan), Crocodiles (Lesotho, Sudan) and Squirrels (Benin) Eagles probably come closest to challenging (Syria, Mali, Nigeria, Tunisia, Albania, Poland, Serbia). Bears don't even make an appearance. |
