Getting a bit long in the tooth, but his set pieces are top notch, distribution excellent and awareness of space is very very good.

Sometimes when a player has a bad start at a club the lack of confidence and opportunity feeds on itself, makes their position untenable, and becomes best for all concerned that they get a fresh start and a clean slate somewhere else, and I believe that's what happened with Forlan.

I was sitting watching the Uru-Ghana game with my son and I turned to him and said "hard to believe it's the same fella, eh?", but that's just the point, he isn't the same player anymore. He has tons more self belief and his game has grown expontentially because of that. So anyone who makes the assumption that just because he was underwhelming first time out, that it would just be round two of the same situation isn't really paying attention.

Exactly.

He was £#%&!ing shite.

I honestly think he's been the best player on display at this World Cup, absolutely first class. Still wouldn't have him back though because certain players just arent made for certain clubs/leagues.

He is like many south americans perfectly suited to the slower latin game.
In the frenetic get stuck in hoof it long english game, he was like a fish out of water, but six seasons on i'd think he's more experienced and has a lot more nous than the young diego and would score a bagful in our league, whatever team he'd play for.

he didn't do it for us and there's no point in pretending otherwise. been quality for the last two seasons though.

In your view Borsuk have you seen anything over these last couple of seasons that would lead you to believe that he would be capable of doing it for us now?

yeah, he plays as a no 10 for uruguay, behind suarez, and even deeper than that, almost as the most advanced midfielder rather than up front, and has shown real ability as a playmaker in that role. iirc we used to play him as the most advanced striker most of the time so he's really changed roles, or perhaps found a role that suits him. could he do that for us? i don't see why not, but he's the wrong side of 30 now, so no resale value, and would cost a fortune after his successes the last two years and in the world cup, not going to happen.

You could change the title of the poll to- "Do you go to the match?"

Because, irrespective of what he has done since, if you watched him week in, week out for United you would still be too scarred to say yes.

hmmm....funny that....

becasue what i remember is, Forlan coming on for the last 10 minutes, popping 3 or 4 shots on goal and then being slagged off for not scoring for another (whole) game.

Fergie on Diego:

“He’s been fantastic at the World Cup. I sent him a text the other day. He’s been fantastic and we’re all proud of him.
“There was never a problem with him at Old Trafford, it was just the combination of him and van Nistelrooy did not work."

Seems a bit daft all this "He was shit years back"

He's obvioulsy a vastly improved player ffs.More confidence, more brain to his game and he scores from £#%&!ing everywhere. He came to a huge club and a lot of expectation was placed on his shoulders and I dont think he could handle the pressure too well. That wouldn't be a problem now, after proving himself on every level he's played at since.

Yeah, he missed some sitters. He also scored some screamers and very important goals. He's a totally different player now yet some are talking like he's still the same player he was 5-6 years ago

Remember two seasons ago when Nani was 'shit'?
