Sacre Bleu!

that film had the opposite impact on me. Couldn't take big boners seriously after his ludicrous display with B&T.

The reason we have the poppy seems to have been lost.
It was started in order to add money to the Haig Fund post WW1, for ex-servicemen & families.
People bought the poppies & the money went to the fund.
This continues to this day, except the name of the charity has changed.
It wasn’t about wearing the poppy to honour the fallen, it was about giving money to help those that the war had affected.
Some people give to charity, but like to do so anonymously.

Exactly. Apparently Arthur Albiston, Bryan Robson and Norman Whiteside have angry mobs outside their doors after footage of the 1983 Cup Final emerged showing UNITED'S HATRED FOR POPPIES.

Beat me to it.

I’d have thrived * in the Napoleanic Wars.

Mooching around France and Spain, chatting up the lay-dees, battering smaller chaps and then running away when the big lads got involved.

No iPhones to expose my cowardice, wearing that flattering black outfit Sharpe wore, it would have been absolutely immense.

*been stabbed by a French midget on day one as I lay terrified, hiding behind a tree.

I grew up a few miles from where McClean grew up, it would be impossible for him to wear a poppy. He's not being edgy, him and his family will have witnessed first hand the actions of the British army. For him to support this army either financially or symbolically isn't going to happen. The lack of support from his club or the league for his stance is shameful but not surprising.
