And out of those, only one (Rooney) can be relied on, and he's not even a natural goalscorer. Great.

We only really have Saha and Smith.

Saha is too unreliable and Smith is too not good.

I think Smith will stay because managers seem to absolutely adore him.

Maclaren was creaming himself over Smith, much like Fergie does.

I've never known anyone held in such high regard by all in the game, despite not being very good.

I think he wil be, Fergie is currently putting his faith in youth and Rossi was excellent in Italy so I see no reason why not. Also I think Ole is done so we'll need Rossi.

I wouln't get too bothered by all this, it's a long summer and it's not as if the othewr signings were entirely expected.

I have it on good authority, that if Barca get Honree, we'll be getting the buck tooth striker Ronaldinho.

I'm not. I'd expect the rumours to continue, but I also think we'll look to wrap something up soon (provided we are after another striker) inkeeping with recent events.

It makes such a difference without a world cup or european championship too.

All targets identified, no waiting til after the event and no being taken in by some quack having a decent tournament.

FERGIE ON SAV TRIAL

By James Fletcher

SIR ALEX FERGUSON is eyeing Argentine sensation Javier Saviola.

He believes the 25-year-old striker could be the final piece in his Manchester United jigsaw — and at a bargain price.

Saviola is set to quit Barcelona this month on a Bosman free, paving the way for a possible move to Old Trafford for less than £7 million. Any deal on offer would be for around three years and worth about £50,000 a week.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Bolton, Valencia and Real Madrid are also interested but United are Saviola's preferred choice.

Offers

Saviola, who has had three years at the Nou Camp, is not impressed by a new deal offer from the Spanish giants at much reduced money.

He said: "I consider my career at Barcelona is finished. There are several offers on the table."
