Default The Chinese Super League thread

http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/38500054

Alex Witsel joins Tevez and Oscar in China, presumably the first of many this month... 27 y/o wanted by Prem leaders Chelsea if rumours are to be believed and he's gone to a Chinese club promoted from the Chinese 2nd division in 2016.

With the amount of players heading over there, can only be a matter of time before the European Champs League becomes a Global one and we have midweek aways in Sechuan province?

Isn't the only reason the government are ploughing this much money into football in China because the current Prime minister is a huge football fan?

What happens if he drops dead in a couple of years and another bloke takes his place who decides that these millions would be better served elsewhere?

The whole thing is built on one man's interest.

This is all geared towards getting them a world cup at some point in the future.

I'd heard it was to raise the country's profile in the West, specifically since they lost a Grand Prix. Either way, they seem pretty serious about it

Why would China need to raise their profile? They're pretty much recognised globally as one of the world's major powers?

Like I said, it's because the current prime minister/president/dictator or whatever you want to call him, is a massive football fan and wants China to have a strong domestic league and host a world cup.

They'll attract a few mercenaries with the obscene money they're throwing about but I doubt many of europes top players will be leaving Real Madrid or Bayern Munich at the peak of their career to go play for the Shanghai Duck Quack or whatever they're called in a communist country with a completely alien culture. Most of the fannies can't settle in England, let alone some province in China.

As for having a 'global champions league'. That would inevitably spell the death of domestic league football and with it the interest of most supporters.

New Zealand isn't part of that continent mate...

Should of gone with, Tasmania, New Guinea, Seram, possibly Timor, and neighbouring islands.

Witsel previously went to Russia when he could have gone somewhere decent.

Obviously it's his choice but I don't personally see why you'd sacrifice your potential and possibly career just for more money on top of the obscene money they already have.

Greedy @#%&!s.
