Who was the Paisley that Fergie could/should have passed it on to?
Shankly to Paisley is an anomaly, and incredibly unfair to expect of anyone. I can think of far more examples of assistant managers taking over and being failures, than taking over and being incredible successes. |

This isn't to excuse the Glazers, allowing Moyes to run the club was certifiable madness. But the only way to have had a successful transition and not just papering the cracks post Fergie with the odd pot would have been by putting in a structure around Ferguson in his last few years. Arsenal tried doing that with Wenger and even then it was largely a failure. It was an uphill battle no matter what for us but of course having the least competent and least arsed owners made that battle all but impossible. |

Loathe the custodian of 13th place in Serie A as much as anyone, but to be fair to him he signed some decent players at Chelsea before he finally cracked for the last time. Diego Costa + Fabreas both very good players of the sort we were crying out for.
Then again .. he did sell both De Bruyne & Salah on while he was there too |

mourinho has been successful, if you just count trophies. by other measures, he ruined football. the idea that he was ever a fit for united is a disgusting concept made only more horrible by the brutal reality that it somehow actually £#%&!ing happened. |
