This article in the NYT a couple of weeks ago explains in pretty simple terms why they know what they're doing & how they keep players onside before moving them on for big fees.
Lots of stats slagging on here recently but it's literally how Brighton & Brentford have managed to disrupt the league the way they have. Fair play to them, the old ways always need to blend into the new somehow, maybe not with the language (xG

) but you can obviously manage to look a shitload more competent than your peers whilst spending 10x less.
