Default Zidane

Just found this on youtube,2.01 .

Did he really mean to hit this shot downwards so that it would loop over the goalie, pretty smart if he did. Anyway enjoyable little vid.

I'm not so convinced as you Grimes, looks to me like he shapes up for it.
Anyway if you see anyone whilst watching the South American game that plays like him, give Fergie a shout. We need him for next year.

Yeah, could be. Looks like he shaped for an ordinary side-foot volley and it just hits low on his foot to me. Reckon he'd have scored more than a few goals a season if he could do things like that intentionally.

Clearly intended and postured. Not particularly out of the ordinary given that space. Miss the guy.

That bit at around 1:30 - 1:35 is ridiculous.

Takes about four defenders out with that turn and pass.

Lovely second goal as well.

He was a fantastic player, arguably one of the greatest. At least top 5.

However, I'd have Paul Scholes over him any day of the week.

I also don't think he could've cut it in the Prem.

Quick question - was it the 1-1 first leg in 99 where Zidane was basically playing us on one leg?

First leg. Still almost chipped Schmikes and had a part in their goal.

Probably our luckiest escape of the Treble season, tbh. Juve could easily have embarrassed us

The finest pure footballer I have had the pleasure to watch. His combined manipulation of ball and body, spatial awareness, understated flair and big match temperament(sending off in his last game not withstanding) made him the best player of his generation. Watching him at Madrid when surrounded with some of the best players in the world, Figo, Raul, Carlos, Ronaldo, Beckham, technically he outclassed all of those players.

Aesthetically, almost peerless, you certainly could make an argument that he was actually not as effective consistently as he could have been, mediocre goal scoring record, trophies won pretty low, but it was a joyful experience watching him operate at his best.

There are moments of beauty he created that will stay in my mind long after the numbers are compared, just a wonderful player.
